5 ways to identify real and fake beans and coffee
Coffee is now one of the products that has been loved and has great demand in Vietnam. In the Vietnamese market, there are currently many coffee products with many different brands, along with the problem of counterfeit coffee, requiring each of us to be equipped with knowledge to distinguish them. What is pure coffee and fake coffee? So, today, let's join Hoang Hiep Coffee to learn about how to recognize real and fake coffee!
1: Volume of coffee beans
Pure coffee beans will have a higher density than coffee mixed with popcorn or roasted soybeans, so when you hold beautiful coffee bags in your hand, notice if the coffee bag is bulging. and lighter than usual is quality coffee. Because when coffee is roasted, the volume of the coffee will expand and the weight of the coffee will decrease to a lighter level than the original level. So if possible, try holding 2 coffee packages of equal weight and compare if the package is lighter in weight and more bulging then it is pure coffee.
Along with that, the density of pure coffee is smaller than that of other mixed coffees, so when you mix instant coffee with water, the pure coffee powder will not sink immediately. For coffees mixed with many ingredients, due to their high density, they will sink immediately.
In particular, pure roasted coffee also has very good uniformity and smoothness between coffee beans. As for coffee beans mixed with other beans, there will be no uniformity between the coffee beans and the smoothness and looseness of the coffee beans will not be equal to pure roasted coffee beans.
2: Moisture content of coffee beans
Pure coffee beans are thoroughly roasted so they do not absorb moisture. Mixed coffee beans will retain more moisture. In particular, other beans often do not have the same aroma, so manufacturers will spray chemicals to flavor the coffee before grinding. So mixed coffee will often be wet and clumpy and not dry and spongy like pure coffee.
3: Color and smell of coffee powder
Coffee that is thoroughly roasted and dried is usually brown in color. If coffee is not roasted thoroughly, it will have a golden color, a strong smell and a sour taste. Because according to the needs of Vietnamese people, there is often a need for the color of coffee to be black, so manufacturers often pad coffee with soybeans or corn because when roasted, these beans will have a dark brown color different from other coffee beans. The color of pure coffee is accompanied by chemical colorants to create black color according to user needs.
If you have used coffee recently, you will probably find that pure coffee has a much more fragrant and pleasant smell. Many people still often confuse the smell between pure coffee and junk coffee. If you pay close attention, you will see that mixed coffee will have a strong, slightly fishy smell and when mixed, it will cause a slightly harsh feeling unlike pure coffee.
4: Coffee when encountering boiling water
Because coffee has very little starch, when you pour boiling water in, especially with filter coffee: when you pour boiling water at 100 degrees Celsius, pure coffee will immediately expand, swell and can spilled out of the filter. As for mixed coffee filled with corn or bean grains, when boiling water is poured in and you don't see the coffee beans expand or swell immediately, it proves that the coffee has a small amount of coffee but a small amount of corn grains. and lots of beans.
